Delaying GCSEs and A Levels in 2021

What this exam blog argued with earlier in the series for the summer of 2020.

The fact they did not delay the summer exams in 2020 is a direct reason why standardisation was wholesale deployed and the mess that followed.

What next is the wide variety of solutions for 2021. Where pupils would have had less time in school to prepare for the linear A levels exams. While ongoing assessments are toxic. We agree with delaying the exams as this simply because it illustrates how inflexible A levels and GCSEs are. While giving more chance to pupils.

The whole exercise of delaying GCSES and A levels will cause shivers down universities necks. While they did not help the Government in 2020. The universities did not come out to and say they will be sympathetic to the schools results they came to. Merely they let the Government swing in the mess of standardisation.

The relationship between A level Exam boards, University entrance and Schools will be under renewed review in 2021. Will the independence of exams along with the inflexibility finally be under doubt? Will universities look at sitting their own exams with or without interviews for entrance to their courses. Eschewing the old fashioned exercise of predicted grades and UAS application.

Being a Private Candidate :

Approaching the A levels with the private candidate will give the flexibility and nuance to navigate the various school bubbles while learning from home.

Being a private A level candidate is the thinking person’s approach to A levels. You need the occasional Tutors and exams. It is like buying a sim card without the phone contract from a mobile network operator. You are then free to choose where the sim card goes.

We are organising a shot virtual meetup around Private candidates. Links can be found here.
