11 plus exam grammar school entrance
Will the 11 plus exam be cancelled? Asks the exam blog.
The answer is most likely no. As a private exam centre we listen closely to the mood music around most exams at secondary school especially at this time of coronovirus. The 11 plus exam into grammar school here in the UK looks set to go ahead. The 11 plus will still take place in early September for 10 - 11 year olds for entrance into the grammar schools. There are, unlike GCSEs or A levels, no room for standardisation or assessment.
It would be a little much for teachers to simply pluck what they believe to be the brightest pupils in the class and give recommendation of the 11 plus mark. Especially when you compare the children who come from either private or comprehensive primary school. Anita Cranmer, from the Buckinghamshire council member for education goes to say “We recognise the impact the [coronavirus] disruption will have on children due to sit the secondary transfer test.” The council is liaising with the Buckinghamshire Grammar Schools Group (TBGS), which owns and manages the test for Buckinghamshire, and with the test supplier, GL Assessment, “to find a solution … and we are also in ongoing discussions with the Department for Education”.
