Elaine Uskoski
Author, Speaker, Coach, Canada Clinical Partnership Specialist at INTENTA Clinical Training for Gaming Disorder.
Elaine discussed the often mis understand and often poorly treated computer game addiction that is most common in adolescent and young men. (We see it with pupils who need to re take exams)
Elaine compared computer game addiction as a behavioural, rather than a substance addiction.
While often there can be co morbidity such as cannabis abuse with video game addiction that compound the problems.
Elaine explained that more often than not compulsive video gamers are trying to find meaning and connections in games that they are failing at in real life. Including massive multi player games, abusive use of computer games can be seen as the effect of what is missing in the real world. So they try to replicate it in the virtual world.
These include: .
