Spires An online tutoring platform Nick Green

We had the pleasure to speak to Nick Green. The CEO of Spires. An online tutoring platform aimed at mostly university students for the exam blog.

Nick goes to explain: It is not uncommon especially in the first year of a university degree students can struggle. Especially with the higher value, harder courses. Students arrive at the university course with a wide range of basic understanding on their degree. Subsequently the universities have a drop out problem in the first year with some instances over 20 percent drop out. If students have help and intervention to get them back on the university course all interested parties benefit.

More about Spires:

Spires.co is a 5 year old tutoring platform. Spires it lets tutors set their own prices and how they teach. Spires only engages with quality university lecturers and senior teachers so quality is assured.

How has the Pandemic affected demand?

Nick explains’ As the pandemic struck and when exams were cancelled, Spires noticed a big drop in the demand for services preparing for the summer 2020 exams.

However, being a broader tech platform they have more international demand for tutoring support for degrees that have exams at a later date.

Nick says that schools have an inherent feeling that online tutoring is something to be avoided because it is dangerous. Nick argues that it is safer to leave a pupil with a tutor online than having a tutor arrive at home and can add a great deal of intervention help just at the most critical time.
