How can economics a level be improved?
-I think it's generally a good qualification if taught well. Helps students link theory to the real world. -Needs clearer guidance from the exam board over what students are expected to know in terms of real world application.
-Not great preparation for studying economics at university
Driven by pupils who wanted to get into banking and finance
From a general interest view, the pandemic is going to be a real driver of popularity.
How can economics exams be improved?
-A coursework element, though this presents its own issues, would be desirable. This could allow students to explore areas of personal interest in more detail.
How can economics be taught better?
-Teachers without a specialist background in economics should be trained to talk about the more technical aspects of the course. Topics like "quantitative easing" and "financial markets" tend to confuse students when the teacher doesn't fully grasp the concepts themselves.
