Coursework being removed for next year A levels & GCSES

here at the Exam blog and podcast we advocate as little coursework as possible for GCSE and A level exams.

Internal tests aside, the Exam House Blog believes coursework is a pointless exercise and doesn’t add value. Merely it is a bureaucratic exercise devoid of learning.

So it is good to see how exam boards are responding. Let us hope they go the full hog and get rid of the whole lot of course work in both GCSE and A level exams.

It will allow nimble, third party providers to bring greater opportunity to the exams to be taken by pupils as private candidates outside of school, like here at the Exam House.

‘Some coursework could be removed and courses streamlined for pupils due to sit A-level and GCSE exams next year, regulator Qualifications Wales said.

Exams in schools have been cancelled this summer due to coronavirus, though there are concerns over "forgotten" Year 10 and 12 students.

One teenager has petitioned the Senedd Cymru - Welsh Parliament claiming arrangements for Year 12s are unfair.

Qualifications Wales said students have faced "unprecedented challenges".

AS students have been told their grade - which normally counts for 40% of the final mark - will not contribute to the final A-level result. That has angered some pupils and parents.’
