Unions are urging exam boards urging to ditch catch up exams.

The Exam blog has heard that unions are urging exam boards and schools to ditch the idea of autumn catch up exams. While unions also encouraging schools not to reopen. What do the unions want other than teachers not to go work? Unions are not on the side of pupils and should be ignored.

The NAHT union has called it completely unreasonable while schools are having to get new pupils back to school.

The Union say there is “no quick fix” to the damage done by the closures, as the government is set to announce more details on summer catch up schools this week.

Paul Whiteman, general secretary of school leaders’ union NAHT called for the Government to provide a “detailed, coherent plan for September."

Paul emphasises what schools needs to do is to focus on their students rather than the previous years students who would have otherwise left. Providing remote learning opportuntities and face to face teaching.

Paul claims “The proposal that all secondary schools will run an additional exam series in the autumn term is completely unreasonable in these circumstances.”

Amanda Speilman, Ofsted chief inspector, says there will be a hierarchy, of social distancing. While schools will need to be creative and put in place an order of hierarchy E.g. handwashing placed higher than social distancing.
