Universities will go bust because of Covid

As we have discussed on the exam blog before. We know full well what the long term consequence of the Covid pandemic will have on our universities and colleges. This will filter down to sixth form colleges and plenty of independent secondary schools .

Universities will go bust because of Covid because a lot of universities will find they will struggle to adapt, change and shrink in size. The result of this will be felt throughout the GCSEs and A levels of secondary school.

It is the perfect storm of three colliding forces.

1) Plentiful online courses available at a fraction of the cost. 2) Government refusing to bail out universities 3) Students demanding value for money now there is a market for courses.

Although the MPs properly do not know the forces that have been unleashed. They are feeding the narrative. I doubt this labour MP thought she would be adding to the weight of likelihood that universities will begin to callapse.

"It does seem that they are being used as cash cows” says Labour MP Siobhain McDonagh on students paying full university fees but getting online lessons Conservative MP Henry Smith calls for “flexibility”#politicslive https://t.co/axR19jflC0 pic.twitter.com/EjTPl4SmZa

Siobhan McDonagh MP has accused universities of treating their students like “cash cows”.

Suggesting that the UK Universities should consider refunds for students as thousands face campus lockdowns.

The Labour MP for Mitcham and Morden told viewers on the BBC’s Politics Live programme that the Covid outbreaks at universities “could have been anticipated” by the government.

Commenting on proposals to reduce fees for students facing lockdown in their campus accommodation, McDonagh said: “They certainly should have a look at it. It does seem like they being used as cash cows in a way…

“Any of these problems, surely could have been anticipated before term started. Students like to have fun, like to go out in fresher’s week – that’s not news to anyone, is it?”
